The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl Beckons Music Enthusiasts with 40 Free Performances

Published February 9, 2024

Music lovers are in for a treat this weekend as Fortitude Valley gears up for the return of the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl. This much-anticipated event brings a musical feast with 40 outstanding bands set to perform across eight stages, all at no cost. The festival has become a pivotal event in the area, known for showcasing emerging talents in the industry.

Embark on a Musical Adventure

In its ninth year, the festival spreads out over some of the Valley's most popular venues, such as Black Bear Lodge, The Brightside, Suzie Wongs, and The Outpost. Braydon Ritson, senior programming manager, describes the event as a 'choose-your-own-adventure' style festival that provides a platform for discovering new music talents, completely free of charge.

A History of Discovering New Talent

The free festival has a knack for featuring artists before they hit the big time. Acts like Mallrat, Hollow Coves, and WAAX have graced its stages in their formative years. With a vibrant atmosphere, the event draws thousands into the Valley, lighting up the precinct from dusk till dawn.

Ritson, who is well-versed in both the scene and the venues, calls the Valley the heart of Australia's unique music landscape, citing the close-knit community and rich melange of industry professionals and artists that contribute to its wholesomeness.

Top Acts and Hidden Gems

The eagerly awaited headliners include These New South Whales, Mia Wray, and Peach Fur. However, Ritson points out there's an abundance of 'hidden gems' like Sesame Girl, Felony, and SAMMM. amongst others, which are not to be missed. He expresses regret at not being able to witness all acts himself due to the packed lineup.

Given the event's popularity and the venues' limited capacity, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to support the artists and to discover their next musical favorites.

BrisAsia Festival Offers More to Explore

For those seeking a different flavor, the adjacent BrisAsia Festival is hosting a bubble tea and food party at Chinatown Mall, offering a cultural experience along with the music festivities.

The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl is set to light up the night from 5:30 pm until 1:30 am on Saturday, offering a night of unforgettable live performances and vibrant community spirit.
