Announcing the 2024 Inductees

New York City will soon be celebrating the incredible achievements of some of the music industry's most prolific songwriters. Among the illustrious group entering the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year are artists who have significantly influenced genres such as country, classic rock, pop, hip-hop, and alternative rock.

A Diverse Class of Honorees

The iconic partnership of Donald Fagan and the late Walter Becker, known as Steely Dan, has left a lasting impact on classic rock with timeless tunes like 'Reelin' in the Years' and 'Hey Nineteen.' After their 2001 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, they now receive this prestigious songwriting honor.

Joining them are members of the alternative rock band R.E.M., including Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe, who have created anthems like 'Losing My Religion' and 'It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).'

The songwriting accolades also extend to the world of hip-hop and pop with producer-writer Timbaland, responsible for hits such as Justin Timberlake’s 'SexyBack' and Missy Elliot’s 'Get Yer Freak On.'

Nashville’s own Hillary Lindsey will be inducted for penning chart-topping country songs like 'Jesus, Take the Wheel' for Carrie Underwood and 'Girl Crush' for Little Big Town, demonstrating the far-reaching influence of her songwriting skills.

Completing the 2024 class is Dean Pitchford, whose work includes the energizing 'Footloose' and the powerful 'Holding Out For a Hero.' His contributions to music for film have earned him a special place in the hearts of fans around the globe.

The Ceremony and the Ones Who Came Before

The Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony will occur on June 13. It's a time to celebrate these artists' contributions and reflect on the rich history of past inductees such as Carole King, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen. The institution aims to recognize songwriters whose music has stood the test of time, with eligibility beginning 20 years after the first commercial release of a song.
