U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters Engage with Students in Vocal Masterclass at Liberty University

Published March 7, 2024

At Liberty University, an aspiring vocalist had the unique opportunity to refine their skills under the guidance of Musician 1st Class Nathaniel Buttram, a distinguished member of the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters chorus. Hailing from Camdenton, Missouri, Buttram brought his expertise to the vocal masterclass as part of the chorus's 2024 national tour. This educational interaction is a component of the Navy Band's robust Music in the Schools program.

Connecting through Music

The U.S. Navy Band has a vested interest in fostering musical talent and building connections through their Music in the Schools initiatives. These programs strategically link students ranging from kindergarten to college levels with seasoned musicians who have dedicated themselves to both their craft and service to the country. During their visits, these bands engage in a series of such masterclasses to inspire and educate the next generation of musicians.

About the Masterclass

The masterclass led by Buttram is one example of the hands-on learning experiences offered. Students receive direct coaching and performance feedback, gaining insights into professional musicianship within a service context. The Sea Chanters' tour seeks not only to entertain but also to enrich communities through musical education and appreciation.
