Among the victors was Calgarian sound mixer Michael Playfair, who secured his first Emmy win. The series, primarily filmed across 180 locations in Alberta, has been recognized for its exceptional technical and artistic achievements.

Playfair, alongside colleagues Marc Fishman and Kevin Roache, received the award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a One Hour Comedy or Drama Series. This marked his fifth nomination and first win, an exciting milestone in his accomplished career.

The Last of Us: A Production Powerhouse

The Last of Us wasn't just a critical success but also a financial boon to Alberta, where its production injected $141 million into the local economy and created over 1,490 jobs. With a total of 24 Emmy nominations, the series was touted as Canada's largest-ever production.

Additional Emmy Success

Beyond Playfair's personal triumph, the show also won for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Main Title Design, Outstanding Sound Editing, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, and Outstanding Picture Editing. Individual performances by Storm Reid and Nick Offerman in guest roles were also lauded, each earning them an Emmy.
