Spain Introduces Discounted Live Event Tickets for Under-30s

Published November 25, 2023

In an effort to boost cultural engagement among youth, the Spanish government has rolled out a new program that offers discounted tickets to live music events for individuals aged between 18 and 30 years old. This initiative spans a diverse range of performances, including concerts, music festivals, theatre productions, and even encompasses circus and dance shows.

Discount Details

The discounts provided under the governmental scheme can reduce ticket prices by €5 to €20, which is equivalent to approximately £4 to £17. This approach not only aims to make cultural events more accessible to young people but also encourages broader participation throughout the year.

Festivals Joining the Scheme

Several prominent festivals, such as Sónar, Vida, Cruïlla, Embassa't, and Canet Rock, have already agreed to participate in the discount scheme.

Year-Round Accessibility

Unlike previous offers that targeted individuals up to the age of 25 and were restricted to specific time frames, this updated scheme will allow eligible young people to benefit from discounted tickets throughout the entire year.

Government Support and Future Outlook

The Department of Culture in Catalunya and other Spanish government bodies have shown strong support for the initiative, with a budget of €700,000 earmarked for the current season. Depending on the demand, the budget could potentially increase to accommodate more participants. Furthermore, the government aspires to dedicate 2% of its cultural budget to support this and similar programs.

European Cultural Incentives

Spain's approach resonates with cultural incentives across Europe aimed at reinforcing the importance of the arts post-pandemic. For instance, Germany introduced a nationwide culture pass last year, providing an allowance for young people to spend on cultural activities, which saw exceptional interest and participation.
