Israeli Broadcaster Debuts Documentary on Supernova Music Festival Tragedy

Published December 6, 2023

Recently, Yes TV, a highly regarded Israeli broadcaster, launched an impactful documentary which captures the harrowing events that transpired at the Supernova electronic music festival. On a fateful day of October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an atrocious attack on the festival, resulting in the loss of over 300 lives and the abduction of 40 attendees.

Documentary Crafted from Real-Time Clips

The documentary, titled #NOVA, is a thorough compilation of real-time footage taken during the tragedy. These intense scenes were meticulously gathered and sequenced to recount the attack as it happened, providing an authentic documentation of that chaotic day. This raw footage forms the entire narrative of the film.

Behind the Scenes of #NOVA

Director Dan Pe-er, who initially aided survivors, spearheaded the collection of this crucial footage. After organizing the media, he partnered with Kastina Communications to create the documentary under the yes Docu production banner. #NOVA has since been made available for international broadcasters through yes Studios.

A Narrative of Terror

Guy Lavie, VP of documentaries at Yes TV, expressed the urgency of the film, noting that it delivers the raw emotions and terror experienced without interventions like testimonials or commentary. The film seeks to speak to the core of the tragedy by letting the footage speak for itself.

The Importance of Bearing Witness

Sharon Levi from yes Studios emphasized the significance of the documentary, acknowledging that while some of the footage had been broadcast globally in news segments, compiling it into a full, chronological narrative offers a compelling and all-encompassing insight into the incident. Despite its challenging content, the documentary is seen as a crucial work that conveys the true extent of the terror inflicted.

A National Tragedy Recorded

The impact of the Supernova Festival attack was devastating. Beyond the festival itself, a series of coordinated attacks by Hamas that same day took away nearly 1,200 lives, mostly civilians, and resulted in the abduction of 240 individuals. A temporary ceasefire has since resulted in the release of over 100 hostages.
