Mariah Carey Reacts to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snub
Mariah Carey is speaking out about her recent experience with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations. This year, the iconic singer, known for hits like “We Belong Together,” was nominated for the prestigious honor alongside other music legends such as Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, and Mary J. Blige. Unfortunately for her fans, Carey did not receive the nod when the final inductees were announced in April.
Mariah's Reaction
In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Carey shared her feelings about the snub. She expressed her initial excitement, stating, “Everybody was calling me going, ‘I think you’re getting in!’ and so I was excited about it. But then it didn’t happen.” She humorously added, “My lawyer got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before me,” referring to entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman, who was inducted in 2022 for his significant contributions to the music industry.
Thoughts on Awards
Carey continues to reflect on her career accolades, mentioning that she has won only five Grammy awards. She recalled, “They gave me two Grammys when I first started out. Then one year — a huge year for me, career-wise — I had like six nominations with the Daydream album. I sat there the whole time and didn’t get anything. I was like, This is not fun.” However, she maintained a joking attitude, saying, “Whatever. If they give me more Grammys, I’ll like them more.”
Grammys Discussion
Carey also touched on her Grammy history during an episode of the “Las Culturistas” podcast, noting that her first two Grammys in 1991 were for Best New Artist and Best Pop Female Vocal Performance for “Vision of Love.” She expressed surprise that her 1997 album Butterfly received no accolades, saying, “They scammed me. They toy with me.” This lighthearted reflection on her career indicates that while Carey may be disappointed, she holds no grudges against the award organizations.
