The Masked Singer Winner Jokes They Wanted to Go Home Night 1

Published December 19, 2024

During the finale of The Masked Singer season 12, the group known as the Buffalos, which consists of the famous band Boyz II Men, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first group to win the Golden Mask trophy. However, this victory was not something they had initially expected.

Initial Hesitation

Before the finale aired on Wednesday, December 18, Wanyá Morris shared with an exclusive source that the group had been approached multiple times to participate in the show. “For the umpteenth time they called us … and we decided that we were gonna do it,” he said. At first, they believed that participating would be good exposure, but they never thought they would actually win. They were concerned about being eliminated early, a common occurrence for established artists on the show.

Change of Heart

Wanyá recalled thinking, “We probably won’t win ’cause they’ll know who we are.” Nathan Morris humorously added that they actually hoped to be eliminated on the first night so they could go home. However, as soon as they began filming, they felt different. “Once we got there and we saw the energy and we felt the whole vibe, we were just like, ‘Look, man, as long as we’re here, we might as well stay,’” Wanyá mentioned, indicating a shift in their mindset. They started enjoying their performances and realized they wanted to stick around for the long haul.

Emotional Journey

Shawn Stockman expressed that they had not expected much from the experience, but they soon grew attached to their roles as the Buffalos. The masks they wore allowed them to express different sides of themselves and perform songs that many people might not associate with Boyz II Men. This added depth to their experience beyond just winning the competition.

Overcoming Challenges

During the finale, the emotions ran high for the trio. Wanyá noted that one of the most impactful moments was realizing how much they had bonded through the competition. The experience brought them closer, despite the challenges they faced, such as the intense heat from wearing their costumes. “What made us more emotional than anything was the fact that we had overcome a situation that most people would bow out of,” he explained. They felt a sense of unity as they performed, embodying the character of the Buffalo together.

Looking Ahead

The group is optimistic about the future. They have tour dates scheduled well into the summer of next year. Nathan emphasized the importance of their bond, stating, “As long as we stay relevant to each other, we’ll be able to ride right in with what everybody else is doing.” Boyz II Men is determined to continue moving forward, bringing their music and experiences to fans all around.
