BAFTA Rising Star Award Nominees Announced

The nominees for the BAFTA’s Rising Star Award for 2025 have been unveiled, featuring a talented lineup of emerging actors. The nominees are Marisa Abela, known for her role in Back To Black; Mikey Madison, who stars in Anora; and Jharrel Jerome, recognized for his performance in Unstoppable. Additionally, David Jonsson from Alien: Romulus, and Nabhaan Rizwan from In Camera complete this year’s nomination list.

This announcement was made today during a press conference held at The Savoy Hotel in London, which was hosted by film critic Ali Plumb. The Rising Star Award, now in its 20th year, is unique as it is the only BAFTA award that is voted for by the British public. The voting process is open now, and the final round of voting to determine the winners will occur from January 19 to February 13. The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 18.

Last year, the Rising Star Award was presented to Mia McKenna-Bruce, celebrated for her work in How To Have Sex. Previous winners include notable names like Lashana Lynch, Kristen Stewart, and Letitia Wright.

Overview of BAFTA Longlists

Recently, the BAFTA longlists were also released, highlighting the most prominent films of the year. Leading the nominations is Jacques Audiard’s lively crime drama Emilia Perez, which has received an impressive 15 longlist nods. These include nominations for Best Film, Best Director, and Adapted Screenplay, as well as a nod for leading actress Karla Sofía Gascón. In supporting categories, Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña have been recognized alongside Adriana Paz.

Emilia Perez shares the spotlight with Conclave, directed by Edward Berger, which has garnered 14 nominations. This includes recognition for Best Film, Supporting Actress Isabella Rossellini, Supporting Actor Stanley Tucci, and Leading Actor Ralph Fiennes. Following these films, The Substance, The Brutalist, and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown have each received 11 nominations.

Other notable films with strong showings include Wicked and Dune: Part Two, both featured on 10 longlists.
