Eminem, Janet Jackson and Others Snubbed for the Songwriters Hall of Fame
The inductees for the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame have been announced, but notable artists such as Eminem and Janet Jackson have not made the cut.
On January 22, the Songwriters Hall of Fame revealed the list of inductees for its Class of 2025, following the nominations announced in November 2023. This year's inductees include celebrated figures like George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney Jerkins, Mike Love, and Tony Macaulay.
Among the artists nominated in November but ultimately not chosen for induction were Eminem, Janet Jackson, Boy George, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, N.W.A., and Bryan Adams. In total, there were 26 nominated artists, but only six were selected for induction.
The six inductees will be honored at the 2025 Induction & Awards Gala in New York City, set to take place in June.
Last Year's Inductees
In 2024, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honored artists including R.E.M., Timbaland, Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsey, and Dean Pitchford. Additionally, posthumous inductions were awarded to Cindy Walker and Prince, while SZA and Diane Warren received special honors.
Induction Trends
In 2023, Jade, Snoop Dogg, and Jeff Lynne from Electric Light Orchestra were prominent inductees, along with Gloria Estefan, Teddy Riley, Glen Ballard, and Liz Rose.
Recently, Eminem released his album ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, which received a mixed review from critics. NME described one track, ‘Temporary’, as a heartfelt tribute to his daughter Hailie, showcasing the rapper's ability to convey meaningful messages.
Furthermore, Eminem, who is nominated for Best Rap Performance at the upcoming Grammys, expressed his belief that Kendrick Lamar is likely to win all seven of the awards he is nominated for, stating, “Kendrick is gonna sweep that shit. He’s going to, and he should.”
