Mick Jagger's Bob Dylan Revelation at the Oscars
Mick Jagger made an unexpected admission about Bob Dylan during the 2025 Oscars. The iconic frontman of the Rolling Stones was a surprise guest at the ceremony held in Los Angeles on March 2, attracting a standing ovation from Hollywood celebrities, including the renowned musician Elton John.
As he took the stage, the 81-year-old Jagger shared a candid moment with the audience, revealing that he was not the original choice to present the award for Best Original Song. He explained that the producers had actually invited Bob Dylan to present the category, given that his biopic, A Complete Unknown, was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet.
“As much as I love doing it, I wasn’t the first choice to give this award out,” Jagger stated honestly, adding, “The producers really wanted Bob Dylan to do this.” He went on to explain that Dylan declined the invitation, suggesting that someone younger should take on the task. Jagger humorously remembered telling Dylan, “OK, I’m younger – so here I am.”
The award for Best Original Song was ultimately won by “El Mal,” a track from Netflix’s controversial musical drama Emilia Pérez, which also saw Zoe Saldaña winning Best Supporting Actress.
This year’s Oscars competition was one of the closest in recent history, described as a three-way clash between Sean Baker’s critically acclaimed film Anora, Brady Corbet’s grand epic The Brutalist, and the drama Conclave. In the end, Anora walked away as the evening’s biggest winner, securing five awards, including Best Picture.
The nominees for acting accolades included Demi Moore for The Substance and Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, but both lost out on the awards. Mikey Madison took home Best Actress, while Adrien Brody received his second Oscar for The Brutalist. Brody faced criticism for an acceptance speech that some found excessively lengthy and indulgent, especially after appearing to toss his chewing gum towards his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman.
This year’s ceremony was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, who kept the audience entertained with his humor, including jokes that gained mixed reactions regarding the Emilia Pérez-Karla Sofía Gascón issue and Canadian rapper Drake. In contrast, an homage to the James Bond franchise faced backlash from viewers who labeled it as one of the ceremony’s worst moments in years.
