Trevor Noah to Host the Grammy Awards for Fifth Time
The Grammy Awards are sticking with their choice: Trevor Noah will return as host for the fifth consecutive time, as announced by the Grammys on Tuesday.
The comedian, widely recognized for his role as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022, will take the stage once again on February 2. The awards ceremony will be aired live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on CBS. This year's telecast is particularly special as it will also raise funds to aid relief efforts following devastating wildfires in the Grammys’ hometown.
In recent years, the Grammy telecasts have seen a boost in viewership, with last year's show attracting 16.9 million viewers. This marked the highest television audience since the 2020 ceremony.
Trevor Noah has made a name for himself with his humorous takes on various topics. Last year, he entertained the audience with jokes about the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, along with playful jabs at TikTok and Universal Music Group. He humorously remarked, “So anything can happen, right? This is like flying in a Boeing airplane. One minute there’s a door, the next one we are outside.”
Noah joins the ranks of a few legendary hosts who have hosted the Grammys multiple times. The only other hosts to have helmed the show five times or more are musical artists: Andy Williams with seven, followed by John Denver with six, and LL Cool J with five.
In addition to his hosting duties, Noah is also a producer and a nominee this year. His comedy album Where Was I has received a nomination for best comedy album. Last year, he was nominated in the same category for I Wish You Would, but lost to fellow comedian Dave Chappelle. This year, Noah is up against Chappelle again, as well as Ricky Gervais, Jim Gaffigan, and Nikki Glaser, who hosted the Golden Globes.
This year, Beyoncé leads the nominations with the most nods. Her album Cowboy Carter is nominated for both Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year, while her song Texas Hold ’Em is nominated for Record, Song, and Country Song of the Year. Following Beyoncé, Post Malone has seven nominations, tied with Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Charli XCX, who is celebrating her first nominations as a solo artist.
