Certification of Event Organizers After Dua Lipa's Concert Cancellation in Indonesia

Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, known as Kadin, has reacted to the cancellation of Dua Lipa's concert in Indonesia, which was announced less than 24 hours before the event. The concert was scheduled to take place at the Indonesia Arena in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Kadin emphasized the importance of certification for event organizers.

Ria Yusnita, Deputy Chairperson of Kadin for Event Management, urged the government to provide certification to business operators or professional certification for those in the event management industry.

This step is crucial if the government aims to position events, particularly music, as a leading sector to boost the domestic economy.

“There needs to be standardization; therefore, the professional certification of all event industry players cannot be delayed any further. There must be government regulations concerning this certification,” Ria stated in her remarks on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Ria expressed disappointment over the cancellation of Dua Lipa's concert, highlighting that it was expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy.

“The organization of events like concerts contributes to economic growth and job creation, especially in the tourism and creative economy sectors. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will also feel the impact from events such as increased sales of food, beverages, and merchandise,” Ria added.

She continued, stating that the sudden cancellation has led to significant losses for many stakeholders—food vendors who had prepared meals for sale, merchandise sellers who had produced items in advance, as well as hotels experiencing booking cancellations.

“In addition to the losses faced by various businesses, the cancellation of Dua Lipa's concert for safety reasons could create a negative perception of Indonesia in the international arena, as promoters and vendors may be seen as lacking the qualifications necessary for international music standards,” Ria said.

Previously, Dua Lipa had expressed her disappointment regarding the cancellation of her concert in Jakarta, stating that she was already in the city.

"I am very sad to share this news because I will not be able to perform in Jakarta. I was already here," Dua Lipa said in a post on her Instagram account on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

"I was ready to perform for your country. However, I must share this unfortunate news due to safety concerns related to the show," she further explained.
