Jackie Chan Makes Rare Return to Hollywood at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards
Jackie Chan made a much-anticipated return to Hollywood at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards held on February 7. His appearance marked his first in over five years, and it was clear that the audience was excited to see him.
The star of Kung Fu Panda was greeted with a standing ovation as he took the stage to present the award for Best Foreign Language Film. As soon as the ceremony's host, Chelsea Handler, jestingly referred to Chan as a "sexual icon," the crowd erupted in applause.
Wearing a classic all-black Chinese Tang suit, the 70-year-old actor thanked the audience with a bow, saying, "Thank you, thank you. Wow, thank you." He quickly moved on, humorously requesting the crowd to be quiet so he could recall his lines, which brought laughter from the attendees.
Chan continued, "Tonight, we're celebrating movies that remind us that we may be from all different parts of the world, different walks of life, but we all laugh and cry and eat too much popcorn the same way." This statement resonated with many present, underscoring the power of cinema to unite.
After reading the nominees, Chan presented the Best Foreign Language Film award to Jacques Audiard, director of Emilia Pérez. This film triumphed over nominations including All We Imagine as Light, Flow, I’m Still Here, Kneecap, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
Although Chan has been active at various ceremonies in China, his last appearance at a Hollywood event was in October 2019 at the British Academy Britannia Awards. Despite his absence from the Hollywood scene, Chan has not slowed down his work pace. Recently, he celebrated his 70th birthday and reflected on his impressive career.
In an Instagram post from April 2024, he expressed his shock at turning 70 but also acknowledged the wisdom shared by his longtime friend and mentor, Sammo Hung. Chan remarked, "Being able to grow old is a fortunate thing, especially for us stunt people." He expressed gratitude for his long-lasting career, stating, "I have been in the entertainment business for 62 years, and I cherish every moment because I’m lucky I’m still filming today."
