Jennie Unveils 'Ruby' Album and 'Like Jennie' Music Video
On Friday, South Korean singer and Blackpink member Jennie made a significant announcement by releasing her debut solo album titled Ruby. This long-awaited project marks a new chapter in her career as a solo artist.
The album includes a collection of 15 tracks, showcasing her versatility and artistic expression. Among these tracks, the second song, "Like Jennie," also received a stunning music video that premiered alongside the album release.
The music video for "Like Jennie" features Jennie in a striking red space suit, floating inside a spacecraft. The visuals are captivating as she reaches for a floating red pill, which transforms her appearance when she takes it, leading to a vibrant display of color and movement.
As the video progresses, viewers are treated to scenes of Jennie dancing with a large group, radiating energy as the music builds up. In a surprising twist, the video concludes with Jennie seemingly transforming into a capybara, leaving fans intrigued by its abstract imagery.
Prior to the release of Ruby, Jennie had collaborated with Doechii on the single "ExtraL," as well as producing songs such as "Love Hangover" featuring Dominic Fike and "Mantra," each accompanied by their own music videos. She has also partnered with renowned artists like FKJ for "Intro: Jane with FKJ" and Dua Lipa for "Handlebars." Notably, Childish Gambino and Kali Uchis have joined her for the track "Damn Right."
The album features additional tracks such as "Start A War," "With the IE (Way Up)," "Zen," "F.T.S.," "Filter," "Seoul City," "Starlight," and "Twin." Each song adds depth to her musical narrative and showcases her growth as an artist.
In a heartfelt message to her fans, Jennie expressed her feelings after her first solo show, stating, "Just finished my first ever solo show and too overwhelmed. Will come back with more to share soon. Thank you to everyone who made this album possible and to my fans out there. You are my world. Thank you for listening to my baby. Love you all."
The post accompanying her message included a carousel of images showcasing Jennie's various looks, including her in a chic short red wig and outfits in different colors.
In addition to her solo endeavors, Jennie is set to tour her album at select venues this month. Later on, she will reunite with her Blackpink bandmates, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo, for a world tour, highlighting her continual commitment to both her solo career and her responsibilities as part of the globally acclaimed group.
