Jimmy Kimmel Jokes About Conan O’Brien’s Oscars Hosting Skills
Jimmy Kimmel, a seasoned Oscars host, recently shared his thoughts on Conan O’Brien’s performance at this year’s Academy Awards. Kimmel humorously pointed out that O’Brien did such a remarkable job that he joked the Oscars might next invite Jay Leno to host.
“Conan O’Brien did a great job as host of the Oscars,” Kimmel joked. “In fact, they said, I read today, Conan did such a good job, the Oscars announced that next year they’re giving it to Jay Leno to host.”
This joke references the long-standing rivalry and history between O’Brien and Leno, particularly during O’Brien’s time on “Late Night.” At that time, O’Brien was promised the hosting spot on “The Tonight Show” to keep him at NBC. However, when it was time for the switch, Leno’s primetime show kept him on the network, leading to O’Brien eventually quitting the network and Leno reclaiming his place on “The Tonight Show.”
In his monologue, Kimmel also took a light-hearted jab at Adrien Brody, who won the Best Actor award for his role in “The Brutalist.” Brody set a record with the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history. Kimmel quipped, “Brody’s speech was so long, he got played off the stage twice. The first time they tried to play him off, he told them to stop, so the band stopped. Who knew you could even do that? And then he gave like another minute and a half long!”
Another moment Kimmel appreciated was when Kieran Culkin surprised everyone during his acceptance speech by announcing his plans for a fourth child with his wife. Kimmel added humorously, “And we have good news. Adrien Brody’s speech went on so long, the Culkins were able to conceive and deliver a six-pound baby girl. Her name’s Anora.”
