Blue Note Jazz Club Set to Open New Venue in Hollywood

Published December 21, 2024

Blue Note Jazz Club, a renowned name in the jazz music scene, is expanding its operations by opening a new venue on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood this March. The club, known for its iconic locations around the world, including cities like Milan, Honolulu, and Tokyo, promises to bring an intimate atmosphere reminiscent of its original New York City location.

The upcoming Hollywood venue will host a variety of jazz performances featuring celebrated artists, upcoming talents, and innovative collaborations that blend different genres. The main showroom will accommodate around 200 guests, while a secondary space called the "B Side" will host 100 guests. In addition to the music, visitors can enjoy a full-service kitchen offering brunch and dinner options throughout the week.

In an exciting development, Blue Note Jazz has partnered with the LA Phil to present the Blue Note Jazz Festival, which was previously known as the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival. This festival is set to kick off on June 14 at the Hollywood Bowl and promises to celebrate the rich history and diverse styles of jazz.

The detailed lineup for the festival will be revealed on February 18, coinciding with the announcement of the complete Hollywood Bowl 2025 season. Tickets for the two-day event will be available for purchase in May through the Hollywood Bowl's official website.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Blue Note to launch the Blue Note Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl,” stated Kim Noltemy, President & Chief Executive Officer of the LA Phil, in a recent press release. “This partnership reflects our mutual commitment to honoring jazz and its remarkable artists, while continuing the tradition of exceptional music at the Bowl. Together, we look forward to creating a memorable experience for jazz fans in Los Angeles.”

The Blue Note Jazz Festival originated in New York in 2011 as a month-long celebration of jazz throughout June. Over the years, similar festivals have been established, including the Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa and Blue Note at Sea.

Robert Glasper, a Grammy Award-winning artist and composer, has curated programming for these festivals, skillfully integrating jazz with R&B and hip-hop influences. Glasper curated the Napa festival in 2022, which featured notable performances from artists such as NAS, Mary J Blige, and Chance the Rapper. He will continue his creative partnership with Blue Note Los Angeles and will curate the festival in June.

“I’m honored to partner up with Blue Note once again for what will be a significant cultural intersection for the Los Angeles community. Los Angeles has always been a second home to me, and I can’t wait to bring LA culture to Blue Note,” Glasper added.

Before this new chapter, the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival was a prominent annual event that celebrated jazz at the famous Hollywood Bowl. It featured a diverse lineup of artists, ranging from legendary performers like Charles Lloyd and Raphael Saadiq to rising stars like Yebba and Cimafunk. This festival has been pivotal in showcasing the evolving traditions of jazz, succeeding the Playboy Jazz Festival that started in 1979.
