Lisa from BLACKPINK Faces Plagiarism Accusations Over New Track

Published March 3, 2025

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has recently unveiled her debut full-length album, titled Alter Ego, featuring the lead track Fxck Up The World (solo version by Vixi). While dedicated fans are celebrating her artistic evolution and new musical direction, the artist has attracted controversy with accusations of plagiarism.

On February 28, Lisa released Alter Ego along with the music video for Fxck Up The World. The song drew mixed reviews, with some fans expressing disappointment over the lyrics, while others defended her work. The criticism resurfaced as listeners pointed out parallels between Lisa's new track and the song Woke Up by XG, a fourth-generation girl group originating from Japan but based in South Korea.

On social media platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), users highlighted that certain rap sections in Lisa’s latest title track bear a striking resemblance to XG’s hit. Additionally, some accused her of mimicking the style and outfits of XG’s member Jurin in the accompanying music video.

Comments on social media reveal the extent of the discussion: "Who is Lisa from BLACKPINK and who is Jurin from XG? I guess we will never know!" Others noted the similarities in a more serious light, asserting that this likeness could not be overlooked, which stirred the debate further.

However, many fans rallied in support of Lisa, arguing that sharing similar visual concepts is not uncommon within the K-pop industry. They emphasize that in a globalized music environment, artists frequently draw from prevailing fashion trends.

Some critics expressed frustration at those trying to create rivalry narratives between BLACKPINK and XG. "Why create a conflict between XG and BLACKPINK? Of course, interpretations vary, but pitting groups against each other to drive speculation isn’t constructive," one user remarked.

Interestingly, Lisa's Fxck Up The World credits Jaeyoung Lee as the lyricist. Lee has a history of working with XG, having contributed to their successful tracks including Woke Up and Howling. It's possible that some musical similarities exist due to collaborations with shared creatives.

Moreover, the choreographer involved in Lisa's new music video also has a professional connection with XG. The overlap in artistry suggests that the seemingly comparable styles in their work might stem from their collaborative backgrounds rather than direct imitation.

Despite the controversies swirling around her, Lisa's album Alter Ego has found success, topping various charts including the Billboard New Music poll. Additionally, the album features anticipated collaborations with artists such as Tyla, RAYE, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion, further solidifying her status as a global music icon.

Lisa continues to expand her reach, having recently become the first K-pop artist to perform at the prestigious Oscars 2025, earning acclaim for her performance tribute to James Bond. With a focus on her solo career, including the launch of her own agency LLOUD and partnership with RCA Records, she is also making strides in acting, showcasing her diverse talents.

Despite facing criticism, Lisa's fans remain excited about her future projects and await her next moves in the music industry.
