Nine Inch Nails to Perform in St. Paul for the First Time in Twelve Years
The iconic band Nine Inch Nails is set to perform live in St. Paul on August 17, marking their first show in the city in over a decade. This concert will take place at the Xcel Energy Center.
Tickets for this highly anticipated event will be available for purchase starting at noon on January 29 through Ticketmaster.
Nine Inch Nails was founded by musician Trent Reznor in 1988 and quickly rose to fame as a leading industrial rock band, particularly during the 1990s. Their influential 1994 album, The Downward Spiral, received a Grammy nomination and featured popular tracks such as March of the Pigs and Closer. The band gained further recognition during their performance at the inaugural Lollapalooza festival in 1991, which took place at Harriet Island Regional Park in St. Paul.
Over the years, Reznor has assembled various lineups for Nine Inch Nails while taking breaks between albums. The band has performed in Minnesota multiple times, including shows at the Target Center in 1995, 2000, and 2008, as well as at the Xcel Energy Center in 2005 and 2013. Their last performance in St. Paul was in support of their eighth studio album, Hesitation Marks.
After a hiatus, Nine Inch Nails returned to touring in 2017 and 2022, but unfortunately, neither of those tours included a stop in the Twin Cities.
In addition to his work with Nine Inch Nails, Reznor collaborated with Atticus Ross to create the score for The Social Network, earning them an Oscar for their efforts. The pair has continued to collaborate on the soundtracks for other films directed by David Fincher, including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Mank, and The Killer. Ross officially joined Nine Inch Nails as a member in 2016, and currently, they are working on the score for the upcoming film Tron: Ares.
Trent Reznor is also a family man. He married singer Mariqueen Maandig in 2009, and together they have five children. In a podcast interview with producer Rick Rubin in 2023, Reznor expressed that he was keeping Nine Inch Nails on hold for the foreseeable future. He shared, "I don’t want to be away from my kids. I don’t want to miss their lives to go do a thing that I’m grateful to be able to do, and I’m appreciative that you’re here to see it, but I’ve done it a lot, you know? I don’t really want to do that right now."
