Dave Matthews Withdraws from FireAid Concert Due to Family Emergency
Dave Matthews will not be performing at the FireAid benefit concert due to a "critical illness in the family." The well-known singer was expected to take the stage alongside John Mayer, who was set to perform a duet with him.
The event, taking place in Los Angeles, features other major artists such as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, and Sir Rod Stewart. The aim of the concert is to raise funds for those affected by recent wildfires that have devastated parts of the area.
According to a statement released, Matthew's absence is due to a family emergency, stating: "Due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week." This news comes just hours before the show was scheduled to begin.
While it's expected that John Mayer will still proceed with his performance, it's unclear whether another artist will fill in for Matthews or if Mayer will perform solo.
In an emotional Instagram post, Mayer expressed his support for Matthews, writing, "Sending all my love to Dave, who will be there in spirit with me." He had previously shared his enthusiasm about performing at FireAid, emphasizing the importance of supporting recovery efforts for communities impacted by the wildfires.
The FireAid concert is set to take place across two venues: the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum, and does not have any formal headliners. In addition to Matthews and Mayer, other notable acts include Rod Stewart, Earth Wind and Fire, Joni Mitchell, and contemporary artists like Gracie Abrams and Tate McRae.
Additionally, Katy Perry is also part of the lineup and has previously promised to donate proceeds from her latest album to help those affected by the wildfires.
