The Clark County Coroner's office in Las Vegas confirmed that Ryan died on January 28. The cause of death has been reported as a gunshot wound to the head, and it is believed to be a case of suicide.
Just days before his tragic death, Ryan was active on social media, posting videos from a bar where he appeared to be enjoying a private party. In one Instagram story, he expressed excitement about the event, mentioning "Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking." He was seen making a rock hand gesture in the video.
A Bright Spot on The Voice
Ryan Whyte Maloney captured the hearts of many during his time on The Voice, competing in the same season as popular country musician Morgan Wallen. He wowed the judges with his rendition of "Lights" by Journey, which led him to join Blake Shelton’s team. Ryan ultimately finished as one of the top five finalists that season.
During his run on the show, he recorded multiple singles, including songs like "Lights," "What’s Love Got to Do with It," "Easy," and "Second Chance." Ryan successfully advanced through various battle rounds and performed during the season finale.
Even after his time on the show, Ryan maintained a close relationship with Blake Shelton, often performing at Shelton's venue, Ole Red.
Musical Journey
Born in Michigan, Ryan was musically talented from a young age, playing guitar, violin, cello, and drums. He fronted a progressive rock band called Indulge and released an album titled Tomorrow’s Another Day in 2005. After a decade of touring with the band, he ventured into solo work and released his own album called Where I’ve Been.
In January 2023, he debuted a single titled "Don’t Put Me in a Box" on country radio, followed by other tracks including "Love With Nowhere to Go," "Sleepwalk," and "Toast To Tonight." Over the course of his career, he shared the stage with major artists like Tim McGraw, Usher, Ed Sheeran, and more.
