Jamie Lee Curtis Pays Tribute to Marianne Faithfull: It's a Great Loss

Published February 1, 2025

Jamie Lee Curtis has expressed her sorrow over the passing of Marianne Faithfull, who died at the age of 78.

On Thursday, January 30, Faithfull's representatives announced that she had "passed away peacefully in London today, surrounded by her loving family. She will be dearly missed." This news inspired an outpouring of tributes from many notable figures in the entertainment industry.

Mick Jagger, Faithfull’s former partner, shared a personal message regarding her death. Metallica praised her as "fearless," while Morrissey noted that she "brought us all closer together." Sir Paul McCartney also paid tribute, referring to Faithfull as "beautiful and sweet."

In her own way of honoring Faithfull, Curtis took to Instagram on Friday, January 31, sharing a nostalgic photo of Faithfull with the late Sinead O’Connor, who passed away in 2023.

"This is the second time I'm posting this picture," Curtis wrote. "The first was on the day that Sinead died. I never printed it because Marianne's eyes were closed, but finding the contact sheet reminded me of this moment. I can’t access my photo file right now due to the fires, and I just heard that Marianne died today."

She went on to say, "She was a great friend of my friend John Boorman and was a fascinating artist and woman, and it’s a great loss. When I can get access to my photo files, I will find a better picture of her. We shared a precious memory together at a music festival in Dublin where we listened to Eminem."

Damon Albarn also took a moment to recognize Faithfull, calling her "lovely, beautiful, wonderful."

Marianne Faithfull was an essential figure in the 1960s London arts and music scene and is remembered as one of the leading female artists of the British Invasion era, famous for her songs such as ‘As Tears Go By’ and her acting roles.

Her relationship with The Rolling Stones significantly enhanced her public profile. After marrying artist John Dunbar in 1965, she left him for Mick Jagger a year later, fostering a four-year relationship. Faithfull inspired many of the band's songs, including "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Wild Horses," and she co-wrote "Sister Morphine," fighting for her rights to be credited as a writer after a long legal battle.

Despite facing challenges, including a near-fatal battle with COVID-19 in 2020 that almost robbed her of her singing voice, Faithfull remained a cherished artist in the music world. A biopic about her life is in development, titled Faithfull, although it is not yet completed.

Additionally, fans are sharing footage from Faithfull's last concert, held at Le Bataclan in Paris in 2016, where she performed many of her celebrated songs, along with renditions of classics by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
