Take That Kicks Off Australian Tour in Perth: Still Going Strong

Published October 31, 2024

Take That has played a huge role in shaping the teenage years of many Millennials with their iconic boy-band image, complete with baggy pants and memorable dance routines that fans replicated in their living rooms. Now, 34 years since they first burst onto the scene, the band is back on tour, with three of the original five members - Howard Donald, Gary Barlow, and Mark Owen.

Excitement in Perth

The group chose Perth's RAC Arena to launch their latest tour, This Life on Tour, marking their 12th global tour. Surprisingly, despite the mid-week timing, the arena was nearly full, with around 15,500 enthusiastic fans eagerly awaiting the show. The high-energy crowd was filled with nostalgia as the band took the stage, bringing back fond memories for many attendees.

A Blast from the Past

Take That has had a remarkable career, boasting 56 number-one singles and 42 number-one albums. Thirteen years ago, they reunited for a record-breaking eight-night residency at Wembley Stadium, grossing $61 million. The band's signature pop hits from the 90s were well represented during the show, and while they performed some lesser-known tracks, the audience truly came alive during performances of classics like Pray, Shine, A Million Love Songs, Everything Changes, and Back For Good.

Even though they are now older and perhaps a bit less agile, Gary, Mark, and Howard proved they still have what it takes to captivate their audience. Their performance felt like a reunion with old friends, reminiscent of the days when fans would sing along to their hits.

Warm-Up Act and Tour Plans

The show kicked off with a fantastic warm-up act from fellow English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, known for her hit Murder on the Dance Floor. Following their successful UK and European leg of the tour, the band has now moved on to their Australian dates. After Perth, they are scheduled to perform in South Australia, Melbourne, and Sydney, before continuing their tour in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan.

Thirty-five years later, Take That continues to be a beloved name in pop music, proving that they still know how to entertain and connect with their fans.
