Blues Brothers Actress Dalyce Curry Found Dead at 95 After L.A. Fires

Published January 14, 2025

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles have claimed another victim. The remains of Dalyce Curry, who was 95 years old and known to her loved ones as “Momma Dee,” were discovered at her home in Altadena, California. The property was destroyed by the Easton Fire, as confirmed by her granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley.

In a heartfelt Facebook post on January 12, Kelley expressed her sorrow, stating, “We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.” The coroner has officially verified the identity of the remains.

Curry appeared as an extra in iconic films, including The Blues Brothers, The 10 Commandments, and Lady Sings the Blues. Kelley last saw her grandmother when she dropped her off at home on January 7 after a hospital stay. When Kelley returned to check on her home on January 10, she found the place in ruins and her grandmother missing.

“It was total devastation,” Kelley recounted to ABC7. “Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac.” After the identification of her remains, another granddaughter, Teresa Kelley-Harris, requested that her Facebook friends “please continue to lift up my family in prayer.”

Despite her age, Curry was active and lively, as shared by her granddaughter Loree Beamer-Wilkinson. “You would not think she was 95,” she told ABC7.

As of now, at least 24 people have died due to the ongoing fires, though officials warn that this number might rise. The strong Santa Ana winds that fueled the flames are expected to return, increasing the risk of further fires in the area, according to reports from NBC News. “It’s very important,” stated Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, “that the community understands that these wind events are coming.”

Many celebrities have voiced their grief over the fires, expressing sympathy for those affected by the devastation. Gwyneth Paltrow shared her sorrow on Instagram, while others, like Joshua Jackson and Cary Elwes, confirmed their own losses due to the fires.

Numerous individuals in the film and entertainment industry have come forward to share their experiences after losing their homes or facing evacuations, further highlighting the tragic impact of the wildfires on the community.
