Eurovision on Tour Brings Stars and Kitsch to Brisbane

Published November 6, 2024

Brisbane often downplays its achievements. Despite the excitement surrounding events like the Olympics or the popularity of local shows, many residents remain indifferent. Yet, it is important to highlight that Dami Im finished second in the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest.

Dami Im is a key performer in the upcoming Eurovision on Tour, celebrating the 68 glorious years of the iconic competition.

Im, who hails from Logan, gained recognition for her nearly victorious entry at Eurovision eight years ago with the powerful anthem Sound of Silence. This hit reached the top 40 in six countries and remains beloved by Eurovision fans. Im will showcase her talent once more at the Eurovision on Tour events in Europe and Australia this month.

She expressed her excitement about sharing the stage with many other Eurovision artists and legends. "It's going to be a thrilling experience to perform alongside those I've only known from television and social media until now," Im shared with enthusiasm.

One of the highlights of the tour is that it marks the first time the Eurovision brand has gone on tour in its long history. Eighteen former contestants will take the stage to perform their beloved competition songs. Attendees can also explore a dedicated fan zone featuring iconic stage props and famous costumes, including the stunning outfits worn by ABBA during their victorious 1974 performance of Waterloo.

Joining Dami Im on this spectacular tour are three Eurovision winners: Carola from Sweden (1991), Emmelie de Forest from Denmark (2013), and Linda Martin from Ireland (1992). The lineup also includes talented artists like 17-year-old Silia Kapsis from Sydney, who represented Cyprus this year, along with Senhit (San Marino), Efendi (Azerbaijan), Esther Hart (Netherlands), and other notable performers.

Im expressed her eagerness to see Destiny from Malta, who was a standout winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. "She was such a powerhouse, and I enjoyed her performances immensely," Im recalled.

According to Aussievision, a local Eurovision fan group, Australia ranks highly among the most dedicated Eurovision fans worldwide, sitting at 7th place out of 92 countries for ticket purchases to events. Im appreciates this supportive community. "The Eurovision fans are incredible. They always rally behind me whenever I release new music or go on tour," she said.

Reflecting on her own Eurovision experience, which stands as Australia’s best performance, Im remembers it as an intense yet exhilarating moment filled with glitz, glamour, and nerves. "I knew I had to give it my all, and I still feel excited about that memory," she added.

Eurovision on Tour is set to take place at the Tivoli on Wednesday, November 13.
