Golden Globes 2025: ‘Emilia Pérez’ Leads Nominations with 10, Followed by ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Conclave’
Jacques Audiard’s bold musical, “Emilia Pérez,” which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender-affirming surgery to become a woman, has topped the nominations for the 82nd Golden Globes. It received 10 nominations, outshining other popular entries such as the musical hit “Wicked,” the gripping thriller “Conclave,” and the post-war saga “The Brutalist.”
The nominations for the Golden Globes were revealed on Monday morning by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. This year's ceremony will be broadcasted by CBS and available for streaming on Paramount+ on January 5.
After years of scandal and changes in organization, the Golden Globes are attempting a revival. One thing that is working in their favor this year is an impressive lineup of nominees, including stars like Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, and Denzel Washington, among others.
The new drama “The Apprentice,” depicting the young Donald Trump, also gained attention with nominations for performances by Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong. Trump has criticized the series as a 'politically disgusting hatchet job.'

There is also a change in the Lifetime Achievement Awards, with Ted Danson receiving the Carol Burnett Award and Viola Davis honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, to be presented at a gala dinner on January 3, ahead of the main event.
Television Expectations
Expect to see numerous nominations for shows like “The Bear” and “Only Murders in the Building.” Selena Gomez may even receive nominations for both her performances in “Only Murders” and “Emilia Pérez.” Other series likely to perform well include “Shogun,” “Slow Horses,” “Hacks,” and “Baby Reindeer.”
State of the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes have historically faced challenges but seem to be stabilizing after years of controversies. The 2024 awards marked a new chapter with the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and a transition to new management under Dick Clark Productions and billionaire Todd Boehly’s firm. However, there have been recent reports about former HFPA members raising concerns regarding the validity of this transition.
