Madonna Fans File Lawsuit Over Late Concert Start Time

Published January 18, 2024

The age of an artist's fan base might be showing when they take legal action because of a concert's delayed beginning. This is now the scenario for two weary fans of the pop icon Madonna. They are filing a lawsuit after an unexpected late start at her concert forced them to stay up well beyond their usual bedtime.

It was supposed to be a night of music and celebration at the Barclays Center on December 13th. Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, both from New York, arrived with the anticipation of the 'Celebration' concert commencing promptly at the scheduled time of 8:30 pm. Unfortunately, what they expected to be a timely start turned into a lengthy wait.

According to a notice from concert promoters, which blamed the show’s intricate production for the delay, Madonna did not take the stage until 10:45 pm. This significant delay did not sit well with Fellows and Hadden, whose lawsuit claims that the altered schedule disrupted their sleep patterns and brought about various other inconveniences.

As reported by ABC News, the lawsuit outlines the grievances of the two men who dealt with limited transportation options and heightened costs as the event concluded around 1:00 am. Not only were they weary from the late night, but they also had work and family obligations waiting for them early the next day.

Fellows and Hadden are seeking legal action against Madonna, Live Nation, and Barclays Center, accusing them of engaging in deceptive trade practices. They argue that there was an implicit promise to the public for the concert to start at the advertised time, and the tardiness constituted a breach of contract. Their action has prompted them to file for class action status, suggesting that other concerts on the 'Celebration' tour may have experienced similar delays.
