Erin Fitzsimon's Triumphant Return to Music at Brisbane's OHM Festival

Published February 27, 2024

Erin Fitzsimon is set to grace the stage at the upcoming OHM Festival in Brisbane, marking her much-anticipated return to live performance. Fitzsimon's musical journey was abruptly halted five years prior due to a severe brain injury from an accident. She's now ready to make her comeback, showcasing her talents once again.

Fateful Accident and Long Recovery

In 2018, after launching her first single and just finishing a national tour, Fitzsimon faced a life-altering challenge. The accident not only injured her brain but also incapacitated her from performing routine activities, especially her beloved music production. Fitzsimon, previously immersed in the Inigo musical project and a student at Queensland Conservatorium, fought a slow, tough battle toward recovery.

Overcoming Sensory Overload

As part of her healing process, Fitzsimon had to cope with a newfound sensory disability that made her especially sensitive to sound, light, and movement - elements normally abundant in music venues. However, with positivity, she has slowly navigated her way back to the musical world she cherishes.

A New Stage with Inclusive Measures

Her upcoming performance will be in collaboration with Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra at Brisbane Powerhouse. The group's inclusive philosophy provides a safe environment for Fitzsimon. Efforts have been made by close friends and community to tailor the Powerhouse venue to accommodate Fitzsimon's sensory needs, avoiding loud volumes and flashing lights to create a comfortable atmosphere both for her and the audience.

OHM Festival: A Platform for New Beginnings

The OHM Festival, known for its pioneering spirit in music and art, stands as the perfect platform for Fitzsimon's return. With a program crafted to attract and engage diverse audiences, the festival celebrates innovation in sound and performance. OHM Festival's lineup invites people to experience a range of groundbreaking acts without the constraints of traditional concert settings.

Spolding's Picks for OHM Festival
